Festival 12×12 : Myanmar, the new cradle of AIDS in asia – exhibition by Chris Huby

BOP has the pleasure to announce the new personal exhibition of his member Chris Huby. During the 12×12 festival in Paris, he will exhibit a documentary work about Myanmar northern regions which are still ruled by the military regime. In these areas, the poverty is extreme and population suffers from the outbreak of AIDS resulting directly from illegal opium traffic.

This exhibition was produced in partnership with HAYTHAM Pictures, BOP & Photoquiparle.

Place:  Mairie du 12e arrondissement. 130 Av Daumesnil. 75012 Paris / Metro Dugommier – Vélib : 212 rue de Charenton.

Dates: from 26 sept to 7 oct / Monday to friday, 8h30 to 17h00, and thursday from 8h30 to 19h30

Malgré l’ouverture récente de la Birmanie et le changement annoncé par Aung San Suu Kyi, de nombreuses régions restent encore sous répression. Dans le nord du pays, source de multiples et dangereux trafics, la junte militaire continue ses exactions. A Myitkyina, la capitale de l’état Kachin, la jeunesse supporte une misère importante, un chômage élevé et tourne en rond dangereusement. Le SIDA y fait des ravages, conséquence immédiate du commerce illégal de l’opium dans tout le Triangle d’or. Pendant très longtemps, les autorités birmanes ont dissimulé les vrais chiffres. Les spécialistes parlent aujourd’hui d’un nouveau berceau de la maladie qui se répand dans toute l’Asie.
