Hern42’s new “on-the-walls” exhibition is part of a larger project, focused on trees, forests, and the world around them. It will be opening at the Alliance Française in Vancouver, BC. John Innes, Dean of UBC Forestry will be speaking at the opening reception. There, you will find around 20 black & white photos, all of them hand prepared by Hern himself, showing the work of some tree-planters, working in extreme conditions on the Canadian west coast. I like photography for its capacity to transport ideas. I like this way to create the reality we want by choosing the frame of a photo : who could say that a photo does not represent reality ? Nobody, however everybody should... Because who is able to claim that the exact opposite tableau was not existing just a little bit on the left or on the right off the photograph at the same moment.

“New” exhibition by Hern42 – Isolation
Hern’s new exhibition is probably the most introvert one we have had to see from him so far. The introduction he is giving us looks like a complete lie: how can we imagine that these photos are only nature as he is telling us… Going back and forth from the images to their titles, we are trying to see the “link”. The “link” between them all. The “link” between images and the global meaning. At some point, nature disappears and what we see are whole “scenes.” Scenes of blur, of clearness, of incredibly large little things. But in the end…
